Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Ma Zhaoxu at the Reception Celebrating the 88th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Liberation Army
2015/07/16

(July 15, 2015)

Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, Vice Chief of Defense Force,

Senior Colonel Chen Wenrong, Defense Attaché,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to the Chinese Embassy. It is a great pleasure to celebrate with our guests the 88th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army.

Thanks to the joints efforts of both sides, China-Australia relations have grown from strength to strength, driven by the two wheels of mutual trust and mutual benefit. While the bilateral trade pact—ChAFTA is going to deliver enormous benefits to the two countries, military exchanges has certainly been playing a key role in deepening our political and security mutual trust.

It is encouraging to see that our mil-to-mil relationship is robust and growing, as demonstrated by the existing mutual exchanges and a growing and important agenda of military engagement.

China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership is based on our broadly shared interests. It is the common objective of both China and Australia to safeguard world and regional peace and stability, which also accords with the interest of all countries in the Asia-Pacific.

China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and is firmly committed to peaceful development and seeking friendly relations with other countries based on mutual benefit. China, more than any other country, needs a peaceful and stable external environment. We stand ready to work with Australia and neighboring countries to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

The Chinese Embassy will continue to work with our Australian colleagues to broaden and deepen our military exchanges and mutual trust.

Thank you.
