Officials from the People's Republic of China and Australia held negotiations in Canberra from 18-19 January 2006 on
cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, including conditions for the supply of uranium.
These negotiations were conducted on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. Good and substantive progress was made
after in-depth exchange of views. Both sides agreed to keep in close contact with the aim to complete negotiations as
soon as practicable.
During consultations both sides expressed their support for international non-proliferation efforts and commitment to
cooperate in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy while fulfilling their respective international obligations.
