On 22 February, 2010, Ambassador Zhang Junsai attended the Sydney-Chongqing Business Forum in Sydney. NSWPremier Kristina Keneally, Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Tan Qiwei and Chinese Consul-General in Sydney Hu Shan also attended the forum.
Ambassador Zhang spoke at the opening session of the forum. He praised fruitful outcomes of the visit by the Chongqing delegation, who participated in the Sydney annual spring parade. He said it used cultural events as a platform to promote economic relations. The visit was a strong boost to business and people-to-people exchanges between the tow cities, and represented a highlight in China-Australia relations in the new year. Ambassador stressed the commonality between Chongqing and Sydney in terms of development goals and visions. He said, despite different levels of development, the two cities shared broad prospect for mutually beneficial cooperation in areas like finance, low-carbon economy, and sustainable development.
A Memorandum of Understanding for friendly cooperation among NSW, Sydney and Chongqing was signed at the forum. Relevant companies from the two sides also reached business agreements. Representatives from the Chongqing municipal government, Austrade and business community discussed Chongqing’s economic and social development, its business opportunities and investment cooperation with Australia. More than 200 business people from Chongqing and Sydney were at the forum.
