2017/11/17

On November 14, Journey Along Beautiful China was successfully held in Sydney by China National Tourism Administration. It was one of the important events during the China-Australia Year of Tourism. More than 300 people attended the event, including Mr. Li Shihong, Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration, Mr. Cheng Jingye, H. E. Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Commonwealth of Australia and his wife, Mr. Gu Xiaojie, Consul General (Ambassadorial Rank) of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, Mr. John O’Sullivan, Managing Director of Tourism Australia and representatives from tourism sectors, airline companies and the press of the two countries.

In his remarks, Mr. Li reviewed a number of promotions and events carried out by tourism authorities of both countries during the Year of Tourism which yielded abundant fruits. He mentioned that in the first eight months of this year, more than 950,000 Chinese tourists had visited Australia and the number of Australian tourists traveling to China from January to September was over 540,000. Both figures were increased by over 10%.

On behalf of Mr. Steven Ciobo, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Mr. O’Sullivan said one in eight visitors to Australia came from China and one in every four Australian dollars spent by international visitors in Australia was contributed by the Chinese visitors.

Ambassador Cheng Jingye spoke highly of the positive role of tourism in promoting bilateral relations. He emphasized that the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, which was concluded recently, provided more opportunities for tourism cooperation between the two countries. He is happy to see more and more Chinese tourists coming to Australia and, at the same time, he welcomes more and more Australians to visit beautiful China.
