Message from H.E. Mr Zhang Junsai Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Canberra was in celebration on April 24. Tens of thousands of Australian general public including Chinese students and Chinese communities gathered in the "meeting place" to welcome the Olympic flame, cheer the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay and celebrate the Olympic spirit. I was deeply touched by the enthusiasm shown by the torch bearers and the welcoming crowds and overwhelmed in particular by the excellent job the Australian host has done in organizing such a big celebration event. The Olympic is about sports, and about communications and respect for different cultures. The Canberra leg of the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay celebrated the Olympic spirit, showcased Canberra and Australia to the world including the 1.3 billion Chinese people, enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between our two peoples and strengthened the Beijing-Canberra sister city relationship and China-Australia relationship. As the Chinese Ambassador I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the ACT government, Australian Olympic Committee, ACT policing and Australian Federal Police for their remarkable organization. My thanks also go to the torch bearers and their families, the welcoming crowds and all those who have contributed in one way of another to a successful torch relay. Their good-will and warm support is greatly appreciated and will be remembered by the Chinese people. In 106 days there will be the Beijing Olympic Games. I welcome you to come to Beijing to share our joy and I wish the Australian athletes the best luck. Thank you. 24 April, 2008 |
