Yang Jiechi Holds China-France Strategic Dialogue with Diplomatic Advisor to the French President Jacques Audibert

On April 14, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held the new round of China-France strategic dialogue with Diplomatic Advisor to the French President Jacques Audibert in Paris. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on China-France relations and international and regional issues of common concern, reaching broad consensus.

Yang Jiechi expressed that maintaining high-level development with prominent strategic, global and epochal features, China-France relations continue playing a leading and demonstrative role in relationship between China and major western countries. It is hoped that the two sides can conduct close communication so as to ensure the series of high-level exchanges between China and France within the year a success. Both sides should make efforts to earnestly convert advantages in strategy, politics and public will of China-France relations into impetus that will drive up practical cooperation, integrate each other's development strategies, strengthen complementary advantages, maintain exploration and innovation, and deeply promote cooperation in the whole industrial chain of nuclear power. The two countries should advance cooperation scale and level in the aerospace industry, initiate the third-party market cooperation as soon as possible, deepen cooperation in the field of sustainable development and further expand trade and mutual investment. The two countries should continue to strengthen coordination and collaboration in international affairs so as to ensure this year's G20 Hangzhou Summit to achieve important and positive outcomes and promote the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Jacques Audibert said France-China relations enjoy a strong momentum of development. The French side hopes to maintain high-level mutual visits with China, and comprehensively expand and advance exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other areas between the two countries, which fully demonstrates the width and depth of France-China relations. Confident in China's economy, France hopes to grasp new opportunities for France-China economic and trade cooperation provided by China's implementation of the "13th Five Year Plan", and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in such fields as civilian nuclear power, food safety, medicine and health, sustainable urbanization, development of third-party market, tourism and sports. The French side fully supports China in hosting a successful G20 Hangzhou Summit and stands ready to provide assistance and support for China's preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Both sides agreed that the strategic dialogue this time is candid, deep and productive. The two sides stressed that the strategic dialogue mechanism has played important roles as the "stabilizer", "coordinator" and "propeller" in bilateral relations since its establishment 15 years ago. The two sides should continue to maintain strategic communication and coordination, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, properly handle sensitive issues, and constantly enhance the political mutual trust between the two countries, so as to promote the deep development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
