Zhang Gaoli Meets with Leaders of ASEAN Countries Attending the 14th China-ASEAN Expo

On September 11, 2017, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met respectively with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh of Vietnam and Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of Laos, who were in China for the 14th China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Nanning, Guangxi.

When meeting with Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Zhang Gaoli welcomed him to attend the 14th China-ASEAN Expo and pay a state visit to China. 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN as well as the China-ASEAN Year of Tourism, and China-ASEAN relations enter a key stage linking the past and future. The Chinese side is willing to take this as an opportunity to promote the improvement and upgrade of China-ASEAN relations, in a bid to build an even closer China-ASEAN community of shared future. The Chinese side appreciated Brunei for playing an active and constructive role in promoting China-ASEAN relations. Brunei is the Country of Honor at the 14th China-ASEAN Expo. It is believed that under the joint efforts of various parties, the 14th China-ASEAN Expo will be a complete success, which will add new achievements to China-ASEAN cooperation. China and Brunei are sincere friends and cooperative partners with mutual trust, China stands ready to, together with Brunei, seize the important opportunity of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, advance the integration of development strategies between the two sides, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and consolidate non-governmental friendship, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Haji Hassanal Bolkiah expressed that Brunei is deeply honored to be the Country of Honor at the 14th China-ASEAN Expo. He is leading a delegation of nearly 100 entrepreneurs for the expo and welcomes Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Brunei. The establishment of Brunei-China strategic cooperative partnership has vigorously guided the development of bilateral relations. Brunei stands ready to further boost cooperation with China in such areas as economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, tourism, energy, ports and education, so as to make the country a gateway that leads China to ASEAN. 2018 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China strategic partnership. It is hoped that both sides could take this as an opportunity to further promote the level of cooperation, and Brunei is willing to play a constructive role to this end.

When meeting with Hun Sen, Zhang Gaoli expressed that China-Cambodia relations enjoy sound development momentum at present. During the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) this May, President Xi Jinping and you reached important consensus on deeply advancing bilateral relations and practical cooperation in various fields. China is willing to make joint efforts with Cambodia to earnestly implement the consensus reached by both leaders, strengthen experience exchange in state governance and administration, push forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation for constant and new progress, consolidate the social foundation of the relationship between both countries, and be committed to regional stability and prosperity hand in hand. China highly appreciates Cambodia for its significant contributions to maintaining the overall situation of China-ASEAN friendly cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to take the 15th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership in 2018 as an opportunity to build an even closer China-ASEAN community of shared future. China also stands ready to intensify coordination with Cambodia to push forward Lancang-Mekong River cooperation (LMC) for new and greater development.

Hun Sen expressed gratitude to China's long-term support for the Cambodian People's Party and government. 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment Cambodia-China diplomatic relations. Cambodia is willing to take this as an opportunity to constantly deepen bilateral friendship. The country stands ready to actively participate in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, advance bilateral agricultural cooperation and expand exports of agricultural products to China. As a co-chair of the LMC, Cambodia is willing to actively enhance communication and coordination with China to well host the second LMC Leaders’ Meeting.

Zhang Gaoli expressed in his meeting with Truong Hoa Binh that as friendly neighboring countries and important cooperative partners, to strengthen unity and friendship and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Viet Nam conform to the common interests of the two countries and benefit regional and world peace, stability and prosperity. China highly values China-Viet Nam relations, and stands ready to make concerted efforts with Viet Nam to well map out bilateral high-level exchanges, well promote practical cooperation, well implement people-to-people and cultural exchanges and well safeguard maritime peace and stability, in a bid to push forward bilateral relations for constant, healthy and stable development.

Truong Hoa Binh expressed that under the joint endeavor of both sides, Viet Nam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership maintains positive development momentum. Both sides need to well implement consensus of the two leaders, enhance high-level contacts, promote cooperation in economy, trade and production capacity and invigorate people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to realize common development of the two countries.

During his meeting with Sonexay Siphandone, Zhang Gaoli noted that China-Laos relations have achieved constant progress since 2017, especially when the two leaders reached important consensus on deepening China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperation during General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith’s visit to China for the BRF this May. Both countries should make joint efforts to ensure good implementation and constantly promote effective integration of development strategies, well implement the signed cooperative agreements on the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and production capacity and investment cooperation, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen local cooperation and deepen the connotation of China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperation, so as to push forward China-Laos relations for constant development.

Sonexay Siphandone expressed that Laos speaks highly of the China-ASEAN Expo held by China which will promote further cooperation between ASEAN and China in various fields. In recent years, relations between the two parties and the two countries have enjoyed constant development with close high-level exchanges. It is hoped that Laos and China could further reinforce practical cooperation in economy, trade, investment, health, infrastructure construction, tourism and other fields and deepen Laos-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
