BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao appealed to build a harmonious international community which features long-lasting peace and common development.
Hu told participants in the 22nd Congress on the Law of the World on Monday that the rule of law is needed in maintaining harmony between people, nature and countries. "Peace and development are the theme of the current era but newchallenge and threat keep emerging, which affect the harmony in the international community and the common development of all countries," Hu said. "In building a harmonious international community, the rule of law should be strengthened, and the principles of the United Nations Charter and broadly recognized principles on internationalrelationship should become the code of conduct of the international community," he said. "Building a harmonious international society conforms to the common aspiration of the peoples around the world in pursuing peace, development and cooperation," he noted. China will build a socialist harmonious society, which is a "strategic task" to promote socialism democracy and the rule of law, he said. More than 1,000 delegates from the law circle of more than 60 countries and regions are attending the conference held in Beijingand Shanghai. Enditem
