Chinese vice president emphasizes cooperation with GCC

    DOHA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here on Monday that China is ready to strengthen cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

    During a meeting with the GCC Secretary General Abdul Rahman al-Attiya on Monday afternoon, Xi said China is willing to enhance cooperation with the GCC and its members in such fields as politics, economy and culture. China is ready to maintain contact and consultation with the GCC on regional issues so as to continue to play an constructive role in maintaining peace and stability inthe Middle East and Gulf region.

    For his part, al-Attiya said the GCC and its members appreciate the just and impartial stance that China holds on the Middle East issues. He also expressed the wish to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with China.

    Xi arrived here Monday morning for a two-day official visit to Qatar.

    The GCC, headquartered in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, groups the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
