On November 14, 2011, Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying met in the Foreign Ministry with Olaf Scholz, Vice-Chairman of the German Social Democratic Party and Mayor of Hamburg. Fu appreciated the Social Democratic Party for attaching importance to developing ties with China and made positive comments on China-Germany cooperation in all areas and China's friendly exchanges with Hamburg. Scholz said the German Social Democratic Party has been committed to enhancing ties with China and Hamburg is ready to continue playing its role as a bridgehead to further push for Germany-China, Hamburg-China exchanges and cooperation. Both sides also exchanged views on the European debt crisis and other issues.
Scholz is on a visit to China from November 13 to 17 at the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Besides Beijing, he will also visit Shanghai.
