On Nov. 15, 2011, Premier Wen Jiabao met with the international members and representatives attending the 2011 Annual General Meeting of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) at Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai to hear their suggestions to the Chinese government on environment and development policies.

The Chinese government regards environment protection as a key point for adjusting economic structure, transforming development mode and benefiting the people and will increase efforts to promote the green transformation of economic development.

Premier Wen pointed out that environmental pollution is becoming increasingly prominent in the process of rapid development. To reduce pollution, it is not only necessary to strengthen governance and accelerate economic restructuring, but also necessary to strengthen the environmental legal system and improve the monitoring means and levels. China needs to improve environmental monitoring standards up to international standards step by step so as to make monitoring results closer to the actual experience of the people about the environment.

Premier Wen said that since its establishment of 20 years ago, China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) has put forward many important policy recommendations to the Chinese government and has generated positive effects. Premier Wen expressed the hope that CCICED could continue to make its contributions to China's environmental protection and development undertakings.
