On Nov. 23, 2011, State Councilor Liu Yandong attended the Ceremony for Granting Honorary Professorship of Peking University to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Liu Yandong said that President Berdymukhamedov has shown long-term care and personal support to bilateral cooperation in various fields and made important contributions to the cause of friendly cooperation between China and Turkmenistan. As a prominent medical expert, he really deserved the title of honorary professorship of Peking University. It was also a vivid reflection of the Chinese people's deep feelings and profound friendship for President Berdymukhamedov and the Turkmen people. At present, China-Turkmenistan relations are standing at a new starting point, have reached an unprecedented high level, and are blessed with important opportunities and promising prospects. China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to jointly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and further promote the development of bilateral relations and bilateral cooperation in various fields so as to benefit the two countries and peoples.
President Berdymukhamedov said that Peking University is a prestigious institution of higher learning in China and he was honored to be granted the honorary professorship of Peking University. This has fully demonstrated the Chinese people's profound friendship for the people of Turkmenistan. He would always cherish this honor and make unremitting efforts to promote the in-depth development of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries. He hoped that the institutions of higher learning in China, including Peking University, could strengthen exchanges and cooperation with their counterparts in Turkmenistan and make new contributions to continuous development of bilateral friendship.
