Wen Jiabao Holds Talks with InterAction Council Members
2012/05/10

On May 9, 2012, Premier Wen Jiabao held a working dinner for the members of the InterAction Council attending the 30th annual meeting of the Council in Tianjin and conducted sincere, in-depth and friendly talks with them on the issues of common interest.

Wen extended congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the Council and noted that China attaches great importance to the role of the Council and is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation. He pointed out that the world today is fluctuating and the international financial crisis, the European debt issue, climate change and regional conflicts have posed serious challenges to the international community. Countries should step up cooperation and handle challenges together. Statesmen and social activists with experience and wisdom should keep a clear mind and suggest right ideas and approaches to maintain peace and promote development. The InterAction Council has offered an important platform to that end.

He said that China and Europe are all-round strategic partners. We hope the European economy can find a balanced path between financial governance and economic stimulus and realize recovery and growth as soon as possible. Over the years, China and Africa have helped and supported each other and built a solid foundation for the bilateral relations. In terms of aid to Africa, China will focus more on improving Africa's self-development capacity and the living conditions of local people and try to create more job opportunities for them. Asia's growth needs a peaceful and stable environment. China is committed to promoting the process of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and advocates solving the conflicts and differences between countries peacefully through dialogue.

He noted finally that China adheres to reform and opening up and will unswervingly pursue the road of peaceful development. It is willing to strengthen friendly cooperation with other countries to achieve common development and progress.

Members of the InterAction Council noted that China, by successfully handling the international financial crisis and maintaining rapid and stable growth, has played an important role of promoting world economic recovery and growth and maintaining world peace and development. The InterAction Council is committed to pushing for the solution of major issues related to world peace and development and expects to enhance cooperation with China.
