LARGE AMOUNTS OF DINOSAUR FOSSILS FOUND
Chinese archeologists have unearthed dinosaur fossils at a site in Laiyang City, in east China's Shandong Province. Large amounts of dinosaur remains have been discovered at the site of the excavation that began in April.
Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences are at the site to continue the research. Wang Xiaolin, a researcher with the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology under the academy, said the archeologists found five fossil-bearing stratums in Jingangkou Village.
WORLD WAR II PRISON TO OPEN TO TOURISTS
A former prison for Japanese war criminals used after World War II will open its doors to tourists. After a two-year renovation, the prison in Fushun City, northeast Liaoning Province, will begin admitting tourists on June 21.
Opened in 1950, the Fushun War Criminal Prison housed 1,000 Japanese war criminals until they were released to Japan in 1964.
More than 800 photos and 500 relics that reflect on history are on display.
ANCIENT COPPER MINE TO BE TURNED INTO NATIONAL PARK
An ancient copper mine dating back 2,800 years in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has won state approval to be turned into a national park to showcase ecology in mining areas and the mining history.
The Dajing National Mining Park in Linxi County will cover 2.5 square km upon completion of the first-phase of construction in 2012.
MINORS ENCOURAGED TO VISIT TRADITIONAL VILLAGES
Cultural authorities in central China's Henan Province have organized for school-aged children to visit traditional handicraftsmen in rural villages to mark Chinese Cultural Heritage Day on June 12.
Accompanied by their parents, hundreds of students will take the free trips organized by the provincial cultural bureau to villages where they can see and experience the handicraft skills of making Tangsancai, Tang Dynasty (618-907) tri-colored glazed pottery, print painting, embroidery and cooking.
